May 2006
Milestones
April 23rd – We can feel her 1st tooth (bottom front)
April 24th – first solid food, sweet potatoes
April 29th – We can feel her 2nd tooth (next to first one)
May 1st – Emma begins to clap her hands
May 3rd – Emma turns 7 months old!!
May 11th – Can now sit herself back upright from lying down position
May 12th – really and truly likes rice cereal with fruit (baby food fruit) and now eats it everyday.
May 13th – Mother’s Day at Me Me & Bumpa’s house in Modesto, CA. Less shy and let’s family members hold her.
May 17th – on hands and knees rocking back and forth. SOOO close to crawling!
May 19th – pulling self up on couch and pivoting body around to take a look-see. Topples over a lot, but she keeps getting back up – little trooper!
May 19th – greeted Daddy with a smile the moment he walked into the house for the FIRST time. It is called an “entry greeting” in child development terms.
Emma can sit up by herself without the aid of the Boppy billow. When she topples over, she can upright herself without any help. She is also pulling herself up on anything that she can. She is becoming more and more stable on her legs, but now she seems to be interested in trying to crawl. She will get up on her hands and knees and rock back and forth. So, only time will tell what she will do and when.
I’m going to regress a little back to March. The last posting I did totally skipped our (mine and Emma’s) trip to Washington D.C. to visit my friend Susan. We had a lot going on at the end of March and beginning of April with the death of a friend, and then the death of our dear Uncle Denny, so I totally spaced that I hadn’t written about our trip.
Emma did great on the plane with the 5 ½ hour flights and traveled pretty well during the day as Susan and I carted her around all over the place. Emma’s favorite part was Susan’s dog Rue. Rue was also very curious about Emma. Emma’s shyness however did make it difficult for Susan and Emma to become friends, but as she gets older, she does get less shy. The next time she sees Susan, she’ll realize how super cool and fun Susan really is. Susan was a fantastic and gracious hostess and I really enjoyed our time with her. D.C. is a great place to visit and we hope to return as soon as we can as a family and spend time with Susan again and see the sites.
Emma and Jared continue to have great fun together. She really, really loves her Daddy and it is so awesome to witness!!
And…drum roll please…she is TOTALLY cool now with traveling in her car seat. She plays, chatters or falls asleep when we are out and about. She will now also stay asleep in her car seat after we get home or if I stop and put her in her stroller. She is almost big enough to move into an upright (still rear facing) car seat, which means that she is almost 20 pounds in weight. Right now, her little feet hang past the edge of the car seat and touch the rear seat of the truck or Disco.
I think one of the most entertaining this she does is WWF time with Denny Bear. She LOVES that bear so much! She squeals and laughs when she sees the bear. And then when she gets a hold of it, IT’S ON and WWF begins. We have it on video and once we can figure our how to attach video to this web site, we’ll share it.

I am returning to work on June 1st and Emma will begin her daycare introduction next week on Tuesday, May 23rd. We’ll be there together for a couple of hours on both Tuesday and Wednesday. Then, on Thursday, Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday Emma will be there ½ days by herself and then full-time on Thursday the 1st. I will of course cry when I drop her off. I am not even going to try and pretend that I won’t (smiles)!
Take care.
