Milestones
October 3rd – Emma turns 1 year old!!
October 5th – 7th tooth is coming in – bottom left.
October 6th – One year check up: 21 lbs., 29 ¾ inches tall.
October 13th – Emma is sleeping in her OWN bed AND sleeping through the night – 1st try!!
October 21st – First 1st birthday party with her friends.
October 31st – Emma was peacock for Halloween!
November 4th – Second 1st birthday party with family.
November 10th – said “hi” to Mommy on the phone.
Emma is now 22 lbs., wearing size 12-18 months in clothes and size 4 in shoes. She is also just about to outgrow her 6-12 month Robeez shoes, which are just about the only shoes she wears because she takes her other shoes off and chews on the Velcro part of the strap! She has also graduated into the next diaper size and wears a size 5. Her new words are more, me and yea.
We transitioned Emma from our bed into her crib which is in her room to sleep at night on Friday, October 13th – it was a VERY lucky day for us. We had our night planned out by who was taking what “shift” of either being awake to console her or sleeping in the guest room so the other could sleep. Well, no need. She went down without much of a fuss and slept through the entire night. To date she has come back into our bed only twice.
She has several new words like nose and teeth and knows where her nose and teeth are. As far as knowing the names of objects, she surprises us each day. If we ask her where a particular toy is she will search for it and bring it to us. She has begun to give us things, like a toy, without asking. For example, when we are playing with her, she’ll place a toy in your hand and either leave it there to get another one or take the toy back. If she has something she isn’t supposed to, when we ask for her to give it to us, she usually does. Usually (smiles).
Emma is really good about letting us brush her teeth. She can inadvertently make it a challenge, though by trying to suck on the toothbrush (smiles). We’ve been brushing her teeth since she began to eat solid foods. The baby toothbrush that fits over your finger is what we are using now. The toothbrush that came with it isn’t soft enough, so we are on the hunt for a softer one.
Emma now walks more than she waddles. When she first began to walk it was more of a side-to-side motion. As Emma gets older, stronger and has more balance, she begins to actually walk more with forward motion and she isn’t as bow-legged. She really did look like a bow-legged cowboy when she first started to walk and had quiet the waddle going on. Oh, so cute! She is getting to the running stage, too. When she begins to walk fast and into a run, she swings her left arm back and forth in front of her body. It’s quiet the strut!
As Emma’s hair gets longer, it is getting curlier and she does have A LOT of hair. Neither Jared nor I have curly hair, so she has gotten it from one of our parents or grandparents. Most people think she is older than she really is due to the amount of hair she has.
One of Emma’s new things to do is to take “you” by the finger and lead you around the house. She has done this to both Jared and I and other visitors to our house. She just likes to take you for a walk, I guess (smiles). Emma still loves books and will ask for them, but she also will still chew on them, so we have to keep an eye on her when she is “reading.” Her favorite stuffed toy is still any one of her many bears. Denny Bear is still her favorite one of all, though, as he was also her first “lovey.” Emma still loves to drag things behind her. She got a caterpillar for her birthday that she can walk and she loves it (thank you Gwen)!
She has figured out that if she drags her chair or little car she can ride over to the couch, ottoman, etc., that she can use that object to the climb onto the couch, ottoman, etc. Last week she was just doing laps of climbing onto the couch, running along it to where I was sitting, throw herself onto me, then slide off the end of the couch and run to her chair to start again. She slept pretty well that night!
When she is hungry, she will now say “nana” to ask for food. She continues to eat a wide variety of things. Her newest food items are risotto, instant raisins and spice oatmeal and kiwi. She loves to have her banana dipped in mixed berry yogurt as well. She is beginning to feed herself with a fork. I will put the food on the fork and give it to her. Sometimes she’ll take the fork in her right hand, switch it to her left hand to eat; and then other times just the opposite. Emma uses both of her hands when doing things, so we cannot tell if she will be a righty or a lefty. We both have lefty’s in our family, so we shall see.
Jared had knee surgery this past Friday the 17th. Full ACL reconstruction w/his own hamstring in addition to meniscus repair. He won’t be able to drive for 2-3 weeks and will be on crutches for at least a month. He has already begun physical therapy and with each day is getting around better and getting stronger.
Our BIGGEST news is that we are moving to Sonora! For those of you who don’t know where Sonora is (no, NOT Sonoma) it is 90 miles southeast of Sacramento in the foothills at the base of the Sierra Mountain Range. Jared was born and raised there and his parents and brother live there as well. He got an excellent job with MRL Industries in Sonora as a Project Engineer in the Research and Development Department. He starts December 4th. I will remain in Sacramento with Emma until the first of the year. Then we’ll be up there full-time as well. Jared has negotiated working 4-10’s for December so he can be home with us Thursday night through Monday morning. I will be taking the month of December off to get our house ready to put on the market to sell. We’ve got some touch-up painting to do, cleaning, packing, etc. AND finish the backyard. Yes, our backyard is still not done. It was just never a top priority for us, as odd as that may sound. Anyway, we are VERY excited and ready to make the move. I have some leads on jobs from home, so I’m confident that things will work out for me as well.
That about wraps it up for now. More info to follow on the move and such as we have it. Take care!
